Overview

This personal illustration project celebrates Glasgow’s distinctive architecture and landmarks through a series of minimalist travel-inspired posters. Using clean geometric forms, bold colour palettes and simplified compositions, each artwork captures the character of the city while embracing a contemporary retro aesthetic.

The collection explores how iconic structures can be reduced to their most recognisable shapes, creating artwork that is both visually striking and instantly identifiable.

My Approach

Each poster began by identifying the defining features of Glasgow’s best-known landmarks before simplifying them into clean vector illustrations. Rather than recreating buildings in photographic detail, the focus was on using shape, colour and composition to evoke a sense of place through minimal design.

The collection includes landmarks such as the SEC Armadillo and the Clyde Arc (“Squinty Bridge”), with every illustration designed to work both as standalone artwork and as part of a consistent series.

Inspired by vintage travel advertising, the posters combine modern minimalist illustration techniques with classic print proportions, producing artwork suitable for both digital display and high-quality print.

Outcome

By combining strong visual hierarchy with simplified forms, the project showcases how complex architectural subjects can be communicated through elegant, minimalist artwork.
