Brand Merchandise Design Challenge

Project Type: Interview Design Exercise (Concept Project)
Brand: Tennent’s Lager (Unofficial Concept)
Role: Graphic Designer
Software: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Overview

As part of a design interview, I was tasked with developing a range of branded promotional merchandise for one of Scotland’s most recognisable brands. Working from an existing set of brand guidelines, the objective was to translate the established visual identity across a diverse collection of promotional products while maintaining consistency, creativity and commercial appeal.

My Approach

The challenge focused on extending an existing brand rather than redesigning it. Every product needed to feel instantly recognisable while introducing fresh concepts that remained true to the brand’s personality.

The collection explored a range of promotional merchandise including apparel, posters, drinkware, tote bags, pin badges and event accessories. Each item was individually considered to ensure typography, colour, composition and branding worked effectively across different production methods and physical materials.

By balancing creativity with strict brand consistency, the project demonstrates my ability to work within established design systems while producing engaging marketing assets suitable for commercial use.
